WOULDN'T IT BE GREAT TO TURN ON THE TV AND HEAR ANY U.S. PRESIDENT, DEMOCRAT OR REPUBLICAN GIVES THE FOLLOWING SPEECH?

"My Fellow Americans: As you all know, the defeat of the Iraq regime has been completed.

Since congress does not want to spend any more money on this war, our mission in Iraq is complete.

This morning I gave the order for a complete removal of all American forces from Iraq. This action will be complete within 30 days. It is now time to begin the reckoning.

Before me, I have two lists. One list contains the names of countries which have stood by our side during the Iraq conflict. This list is short. The United Kingdom, Spain, Bulgaria, Australia, and Poland are some of the countries listed there.

The other list contains every one not on the first list. Most of the world's nations are on that list. My press secretary will be distributing copies of both lists later this evening.

Let me start by saying that effective immediately, foreign aid to those nations on List 2 ceases immediately and indefinitely. The money saved during the first year alone will pretty much pay for the costs of the Iraqi war. THEN EVERY YEAR THERE AFTER It’ll GO TO OUR SOCIAL SECURITY SYSTEM SO IT WONT GO BROKE IN 20 YEARS.

The American people are no longer going to pour money into third world Hell holes and watch those government leaders grow fat on corruption.

Need help with a famine? Wrestling with an epidemic? Call France.

In the future, together with Congress, I will work to redirect this money toward solving the vexing social problems we still have at home. On that note, a word to terrorist organizations. Screw with us and we will hunt you down and eliminate you and all your friends from the face of the earth.

Thirsting for a gutsy country to terrorize? Try France or maybe China.

I am ordering the immediate severing of diplomatic relations with France, Germany, and Russia. Thanks for all your help, comrades. We are retiring from NATO as well. Bonne chance, mes amies.

I have instructed the Mayor of New York City to begin towing the many UN diplomatic vehicles located in Manhattan with more than two unpaid parking tickets to sites where those vehicles will be stripped, shredded and crushed. I don't care about whatever treaty pertains to this. You creeps have tens of thousands of unpaid tickets. Pay those tickets tomorrow or watch your precious Benzes, Beamers and limos be turned over to some of the finest chop shops in the world. I love New York

A special note to our neighbors. Canada is on List 2. Since we are likely to be seeing a lot more of each other, you folks might want to try not pissing us off for a change.

Mexico is also on List 2. Its president and his entire corrupt government really need an attitude adjustment. I will have a couple of extra thousand tanks and infantry divisions sitting around. Guess where I am going to put 'em? Yep, border security.

Oh, by the way, the United States is abrogating the NAFTA treaty - starting now.

We are tired of the one-way highway. Immediately, we'll be drilling for oil in Alaska- which will take care of this country's oil needs for decades to come. If you're an environmentalist who opposes this decision, I refer you to List 2 above: pick a country and move there.

It is time for America to focus on its own welfare and its own citizens. Some will accuse us of isolationism. I answer them by saying, 'darn tootin.'

Nearly a century of trying to help folks live a decent life around the world has only earned us the undying enmity of just about e everyone on the planet. It is time to eliminate hunger in America. It is time to eliminate homelessness in America. To the nations on List 1, a final thought. Thank you guys. We owe you, and we won't forget.

To the nations on List 2, a final thought: You might want to learn to speak Arabic.

I gaze at my two sons -- and the feeling is indescribable. So much innocence and so much joy, yet I know there are challenges ahead, mountains to climb, emotions to deal with.

How can I best prepare them for life? How can I prevent them from making the same mistakes I made? How can I protect them from the evil in the world?

Considering this, I realize the best thing I can do is to let them be themselves, accept them for who they are, encourage them along the way, and wish for them the best that life can offer.

I wish that they will find happiness where there is sadness, hope where there is despair, and meaning where there is confusion.

I wish that one day they can know the love of a child, hear their footsteps as they walk through the door, and gaze upon them as they sleep.

I wish for them that they will find true love, as I have found it with their mother.

I wish that they will be happy and fulfilled in their chosen professions, that they will be able to balance work and family, and find the time to help others less fortunate than they are.

As for me, I wish that I can be every bit the man they see when they look at me with their adoring eyes.

Citizens Urged to ‘ICE' Their Cell Phones

Governor Jodi Rell and Public Safety commissioner Leonard Boyle are writing
letters to all police and fire organizations in the state, urging them to
encourage citizens to "ICE" their cell phones.

The ICE idea gained urgency in Great Britain after the subway attacks on
July 7. Bob Brotchie, a paramedic who works as a team leader for the East
Anglian Ambulance Service, originated a campaign in that country to get
people to use their cell phones to help emergency responders know who to
call in an emergency. The idea is that, while programming in phone numbers,
the cell phone owner would precede their contact of choice with the acronym
ICE, for "In Case of Emergency." Thus, on a teen's phone, "ICE mom" and
"ICE dad" might be listed, with their respective phone numbers.

Supporting this idea, besides the Governor and the Public Safety
commissioner, is State Representative Ray Kalinowski. "This is a simple
concept," said Kalinowski. "People can just enter the name of a close
relative or friend on their cell phone to be called in case of emergency.
This is especially useful for elderly people living alone. Police of other
emergency personnel can simply touch ICE on the cell phone to contact next
of kin."

"This practice has already caught on in Great Britain and makes a great
deal of sense," Governor Rell said. "Almost everyone carries a cell phone,
and Connecticut residents—and Americans everywhere, for that matter—should
do it. It only takes a minute and can prove extremely valuable and save a
great deal of time in the event of an auto accident, a health emergency, a
natural disaster or a terrorist attack. Anything we can do in terms of
preparedness, we should do."

The contact information is especially useful for paramedics or other
emergency personnel responding to incidents where someone has been
seriously injured or is otherwise incapable of notifying their families of
the situation.

"The ICE initiative gives emergency responders an excellent place to
start," said Kalinowski. "It's also a common-sense idea for everyone. Plus,
it's free. Many children as young as middle school age have cell phones, as
do their parents and grandparents. I encourage everyone to take this simple
action today, and give their families some additional peace of mind."

However, as is common with common-sense ideas, rumors have already begun
circulating that this simple plan will allow viruses to access these phones
and drain their minutes and/or credits. This is emphatically not true,
though there are some drawbacks to the plan. The most significant drawback
is that a cell phone might be destroyed or separated from its owner in a
particular incident. However, because 75 percent of accident victims have
no designated "in case of emergency" contact, even linking some emergency
responders and victims' families/friends would be helpful.

In this area, the Madison Police Department (www.madisonct.org/pdICE.htm)
explains the ICE program on its website and encourages residents to use it.

Several next-of-kin registration programs were established in the wake of
the September 11, 2001, attacks in this country and some are fee-based.
However, any cell phone user can utilize ICE at no charge.

Nice weekend coming

So it looks like it's finally a nice weekend coming, going to be warm. Sunday is my company Family Day, lots of food, beer, games, pony ride, the pool. Always a fun time, especially for the kids. It's my last one, going to have a good time, and also say some good-bys to coworkers I don't see that often.

Last weekend we went camping in MA. Weather-persons called for a washout. We had a good time, with rain only overnight.

Met with the career planning / job placement service this week. They're going to give me lots of help in jumpstarting my new job search. I'm thinking that all this will turn out to be a positive thing, with me getting a new job, possibly in something new (disaster recovery coodinator maybe) at a good company.

I volunteer with the Red Cross as a Disaster Action Team member, we work mostly fires in this area. Did all my training, responded to a lot of fires and shelter openings. At the meeting Thursday, got promoted to DAT, so no longer in training.

Installed a satellite radio in the car. Actually, it's portable, so I can take in from the car to the house to the office. Pretty neat stuff, even for a gadget junkie.

Well, my 60 second jabber is done. No animals were hurt in the posting of this blog.

This is what my time at this job will work out to. On average it was 45 hour weeks, many weekends and holidays, constantly on-call carrying pager and cell phone, many sleepless nights. And the thanks I get? 1 week per year severance.

Wrong place at the wrong time

Got some of the worst news you can hear. Well, maybe not the worst, but not good at all. After 7 years at the company and 22 years in the IT industry, "your position has been eliminated". Was not a performance issue, not a skills issue, nothing. Just cost cutting. They trust me enough to stay on through the summer to keep things working, and to work on oursourcing our backup system. This is so not good. Single dad with two kids under 8 and no income, not a good feeling about the job market, no way I'll get back to this salary again. There goes the house I guess. Maybe I'll be allowed to keep my car.

How much is too much?

Both kids fall asleep in the car.
We don’t get home until 7:20 pm.
They don’t eat until 7:45 pm.
I don’t eat until 7:50 pm.
She mopes and is tired and won’t really work hard at homework.
My supper gets cold as I harass her to read.
I do homework with him.
It’s 8:25 pm and she still has much reading to do.
She’s crying about not finishing the homework and having to miss a field trip because of it.
Since she’s crying, she really doesn’t want to read.
They both go to bed late.
She gets up late.
She’ll probably miss her bus, so I’ll drive her to school.
I’ll be late to work.

Sometimes all this activity is just a bit much for little children.
